I recently bought the signature zakk wylde EMG pickups. I read online that you can get a warmer sound out of them if you get a 18v mod, in other words, put in two 9v batteries instead of one? Does anyone know if it is worth it to get the mod?

It's all what you like really, personal prefence. I had t hat mod on my ESP explorer and it did make a difference in tone. I'm not really and EMG guy, I like saturated overdrive more then I like distortion. The mod does make a clear change in the tone, it's very colored and very easy to hear.

The guitar I'm going to have them installed to is a ESP F-200. I heard also that Emg's are extremely easy to install because they have quick connect cables, but the guy at the guitar shop said it would be about $75 to install them. Would I just be better off doing it myself? I'm wondering because I'm also having a killswitch installed and now the 18v mod, and he said he'll do all of it for a little over $110. So should I install the pickups and just have the guy do the mod and install the killswitch afterward, or should I just let him do all of it? Thanks.

Brohead you could do that mod in your sleep, it's easy. If someone told me they wanted $75 for that mod I would look them straight in the eyes and say "looks like I wont be bringing my guitars back here anymore."

He said he'd install the EMG's for $75, the killswitch for $25 and he didn't give me a price for the mod. I dropped my guitar off yesterday, but only his nephew was there. So I called him today, and he said I should also give him $50 to "set up" my guitar to make the inotation better. I asked for an estimate of the total cost, and he said he would call me right back. That was at 11:00AM, and now it's 5:00PM and he still hasn't called. I don't know about this guy, it doesn't seem like he's in too big of a hurry to get the job done.
